Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Announces National Financial Awareness Initiatives

(Philadelphia, PA) September 7, 2007 - Dwayne M. Murray, Esq. Grand Polemarch, CEO of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. announced today that a dual program focusing on college students' financial literacy and consumer debt education will be the hallmark of his administration. While announcing the initiative, Grand Polemarch Murray called the awareness of personal finance and control of credit debt, "One of the most pressing issues facing today's college students."

Under the initiative Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. will partner with the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees (NABT) and several United States Bankruptcy Courts to actively promote CARE (Credit Abuse Resistance Education) program and create GLAD (Greeks Learning to Avoid Debt) to educate local communities and college campuses on the importance of maintaining a debt free life.

According to Nellie Mae, a leader in college loan counseling, the average college student carries more than $2000 in credit card debt and more than ten percent have more than $7,000 in debt, which nearly doubles when students only pay minimum balances because of high interests.

Under the leadership of Junior Grand Vice Polemarch Michael Davis, the fraternity's undergraduates will design and implement GLAD throughout a select group of one hundred campuses. While Alumni chapters under the supervision of Grand Board member Anthony Hill will promote CARE through the national mentoring structure of the Kappa Alpha Psi Guide Right/ Kappa League Programs, community service, and other related public initiatives.

Grand Polemarch Murray said, "both CARE and GLAD will eventually benefit thousands of collegiate and high school students better understand consumer education and the proper usage of credit cards."

CARE was founded in 2002 as an initiative of the bankruptcy counseling community and Kappa Alpha Psi sees its involvement as vital to getting the importance of financial planning to young college students.
