Laurel Wreath Laureate Tapped for Chairmanship

(Albany, GA) September 28, 2007 - Laurel Wreath Laureate C.W. Grant of Albany (GA) Alumni has been tapped to serve as Chairman of the Albany Tomorrow Incorporated's Board of Directors (ATI). ATI, a business-based nonprofit corporation, was formed to spearhead an effort to create a revitalization plan for Albany. ATI has developed a $210-million master plan to serve as the road map for creating a new mix of commercial, institutional and residential activities necessary to accomplish revitalization. The goal of the plan is to pack the center of the community with diverse activities and destinations that will be an irresistible draw and entice others from outside our community to come and visit our City.

ATI's concept represents a collaborative between City and County government and private funding to implement the Downtown Riverfront Master Plan. Combined, the City and the County have committed $1.2 million to implement the plan. To date, the plan has yielded the Albany Flint RiverQuarium, a state of the art Law Enforcement Center, the Hilton Garden Hotel, an administrative and client services office for the Georgia Department of Human Resources, parking decks, businesses and eateries.

Currently, ATI is involved in the expansion of the Albany Civil Rights Institute and Thornateeska Heritage Foundation, and the construction of the Bridge House and Ray Charles Plaza.

Grant, a member of the ATI board since 2002, was elected chairman in May and assumed his role as Chairman at their June monthly meeting. When questioned about his new position Grant stated, "I care about what happens to our community and to our town. When you care, you can't leave things alone." Grant further stated that "ATI is made up of some of the brightest minds in this community. I believe we'll be able to collectively make the adjustments we need to remain a vital part of the revitalization of this community." ATI officials have openly expressed their confidence in Brother Grant and collectively feel that he will have a positive and stabilizing impact on the organization.

Grant, a retired Vice President of Student Affairs at Albany State University, is no stranger to challenging positions of leadership. Past President of the Board of Directors, Albany Civil Rights Museum at Old Mount Zion Baptist Church; member of the Board of Directors, American Red Cross; and past Chairman of the Dougherty County School Board. Brother Grant, a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, holds the distinction of being one of only four Kappas in the country, to have received both of Kappa's two highest awards: The Elder Watson Diggs Award and The Laurel Wreath.

The Brothers of the Albany Alumni Chapter salute Brother Grant, and applaud his tireless efforts to make an impact in his community. Because of the likes of Brother Grant, Albany, Georgia will be at a better place tomorrow than it is today.
